Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

Use this page to tell us to stop the sale and sharing of your personal information, including its use for targeted advertising.

Several US state privacy laws give this right, including the laws of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas and Virginia. We apply the opt-out to anyone who asks, whatever state you live in.

What "sale" and "sharing" mean here

These words are wider in the law than in ordinary speech.

Sale means disclosing personal information to another company for money or for other value. Money does not have to change hands.
Sharing (California) and targeted advertising (other states) mean disclosing personal information so that ads can be selected for you based on your activity across other websites and apps.

We do not sell your name, address, order history or payment details for money, and we never disclose payment card data for advertising. We do disclose advertising identifiers to Google and Meta so that ads can be selected and measured. Under California law that counts as a "sale" and a "share". Under the other state laws it counts as "targeted advertising". So we treat it as something you can switch off.

The advertising identifiers involved

cookie and device identifiers set when you visit the site
a hashed (scrambled) form of your email address, if you have given it to us
events from your visit: pages and products viewed, items added to cart, orders placed and order value
approximate location — city, state and country worked out from your IP address

We do not collect sensitive personal information, so none is used for advertising.

What opting out does, and what it does not do

Opting out stops us disclosing the identifiers above for cross-context behavioral advertising and targeted advertising.

It does not stop us processing your order, sending you order and delivery email, or keeping the records we need for accounting, tax and fraud prevention. It is not a deletion request; the right to delete is set out in the Privacy Policy. You will still see ads online, but they will not be selected from your activity with us.

Opting out is free, and it costs you nothing else: we will not deny you products, charge you a different price, or give you slower or lower-quality service because you asked.

How to submit the request

Either route works. You do not need an account, and for a browser-level opt-out you do not need to give us your name.

1. The form on this page. Tell us the state you live in and, if you want the opt-out matched to your records, the email address used on your order.

2. Email hello@bymayvelle.com with the subject "Opt out of sale and sharing".

An opt-out made in a browser applies to that browser and device, because it works through the cookies stored there. Repeat it in any other browser or device you use. An opt-out sent by email or by the form is applied to the email address and order records we can match.

What happens next

1. We acknowledge your request within 10 business days.

2. We stop the disclosure of the identifiers we can match to you, and we complete the request within 45 calendar days of receiving it. We write to you when it is done.

3. We do not ask for a copy of an ID document. For an opt-out we only need enough to know which records to act on — normally the email address used on the order. If we cannot match you, we will tell you and explain why.

4. Requests are free.

For anything else you send us by email, we reply within 1 business day (Monday to Friday).

Someone submitting on your behalf

An authorized agent may submit this request for you. The agent must give us written permission signed by you, and we may contact you directly to confirm that you gave it. In California an agent may instead present a valid power of attorney. Requests from an agent are handled on the same timings as above.

If we refuse your request

If we cannot act on your request, we will tell you in writing, explain why, and explain how to appeal.

To appeal, reply to that decision or email hello@bymayvelle.com with the subject "Privacy appeal". We review the appeal and give you a written answer with reasons within 45 calendar days. If we deny the appeal, we will give you the contact details for your state Attorney General so you can complain. Californians may also complain to the California Privacy Protection Agency.
